What is physical intervention training?
A range of courses covering breakaway and restraint techniques, advanced physical skills and self-protection designed to equip employees to deal with different levels of risk and manage challenging behaviour safely.
When should physical intervention be used?
Physical Intervention may be used: to disengage from a dangerous situation; to prevent the child or young person inflicting self-injury, injuring others or damaging property; to protect oneself from harm.
What are SIA endorsed training qualifications?
SIA-endorsed qualifications are valid for SIA licensing requirements regardless of which UK qualifications regulatory authority approved them. However, we recommend that you undertake additional, location-specific training if you will be working in a region not covered by your training.
When can you use physical restraint?
Physical restraints should only be used in an emergency situation when less restrictive interventions haven’t been effective and the patient is at risk for harming him- or herself or others. Using restraints as a means of coercion, discipline, or convenience is a violation of patient rights.

- That minimum force is used for the shortest time;
- Action taken prevents injury, pain and distress;
- Action taken maintain dignity of the Young Person;
- Reasonable and Proportionate;
- Any Action should be necessary.
