Can uni students use other Uni libraries?
Full-time undergraduates can use the libraries of most participating universities for reference only. Academic staff, full- or part-time postgraduates, distance-learning, or placement students can usually borrow from other libraries as well.
Is Reading University library open to the public?
Members of the public are welcome to use the University Library for reference and private study (except during the University Examinations period – details below) . This gives access to all our printed materials. It will not give access to e-resources.

How much is a York Card?
Available to all who live or work within the York area, the York Card costs £6 for adult residents or £10 for non-residents who work in the city. The card is free for children and young people up to the age of 18 and adults on qualifying benefits.
Can you study in libraries?
Newer libraries are usually built with study rooms, especially if the library is connected to a college or university. At large libraries that serve many patrons, you may need to reserve the study room in order to use it. Essentially, if you arrive at the library and a room is open, you can use it.
Can I use a University library if I’m not a student?
You don’t need to be a member of the Library to come and browse books or infrequently access our online resources from within any of our libraries. If you want to borrow physical books or regularly use Library computers to access online databases, then you would need to become a member.
Is University of Reading a Russell Group?
All but one of the UK’s Redbrick Universities are members of the Russell Group – the only exception being the University of Reading.
Will York Fall 2021 be online?
Will Fall (September) 2021 courses be online or in person? In Fall 2021 term, York will be offering a wide range of learning formats, from courses offered fully in-person to hybrid courses that will have some classes or selected activities offered in-person.

The Morrell, Fairhurst and Burton are currently 8am until midnight, seven days a week. Our other Library at King’s Manor is currently open 9am-5pm Monday to Friday; the York Minster Library is open by appointment only.
How did the University of York Library get its name?
The Library is named after John Bowes Morrell, a former Lord Mayor of York and a leading figure in the local movement to establish a university in York. Harry Fairhurst was the first librarian at the University of York. He was the fourth person to be employed by the University and began work before the Library had actually been built.
