Can you mix R422D with R22?
Re: Conflicting info regarding R22 and R422D R422D is a so called drop in for R22. You must remove the R22 and replace the whole charge with the R422D. In theory R422D runs OK with the original Mineral oil charge in the compressor and simply replacing the gas is all that’s required. ( Never mix refrigerants !.)
Is R22 toxic?
It’s important for you to understand what the R22 is: a highly toxic and flammable refrigerant used in most HVAC systems.
Which is the best refrigerant to replace HCFC 22 refrigerant?
R-407c
The best replacement for R-22 Freon is usually R-407c. It has a very low loss in capacity (0 – 5%) relative to R-22 and is less expensive than many other R-22 replacement refrigerants. If a system has R22 in it already you cannot use a replacement refrigerant to simply add to the R22.
What is R22 refrigerant used for?
What is R22? R22 refrigerant has been used for years in central air conditioners, heat pumps, mini-splits, car AC systems, and other refrigeration equipment. It’s the key to absorbing and removing heat from a space. You might also hear R22 refrigerant called by its chemical name, hydrochlorofluorocarbon 22 (HCFC-22).
What refrigerants can be mixed with R22?
The most commonly mixed refrigerants in the field are the replacements for R-22 — R-427A, R-438A, R-422D, and R-407C — which are often combined with the remaining R-22 in the system, said Maiorana.
Why is R22 bad?
Why is R-22 bad? Currently, the world has recognized and decided that R-22 refrigerant was destroying the Earth’s ozone layer. R-22 was banned because, as a gas, it works its way to the upper atmosphere where it breaks apart ozone and converts it into carbon dioxide.
Why is R22 bad for environment?
Over the years, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) found that R22 is depleting the ozone layer and is a harmful agent for the environment. The phase out of R22 production and imports started in 2003. The stock of this chemical continues to deplete rapidly, also leading to substantial increase in its prices.
What happens if you mix 410A and R22?
The answer: No. Putting R-410A refrigerant into an AC unit that was designed to use R-22 will cause the unit to die soon after it tries to run.
